The mansion is seen today is as it was renovated in the late 19th century, in the elegant Italianate style of architecture, by Joseph Wharton, a Philadelphia businessman. Among Joseph Wharton's many accomplishments was the establishment in 1881 of the world’s first collegiate school of business, the world renowned Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
